Introducing the Parent Squad (Part Five)

parent-squad-introOur Parent Squad is a carefully assembled group of parents who are passionate about sharing the story and images of their family with our community. The main goal is to bring the MommyCon community together by providing authentic opinions, real-life product reviews and giveaways via social media and blogging. If you missed our first three sets of introductions, you can find those posts here: Part OnePart TwoPart Three and Part Four. We’ll continue introducing you to our members each Monday and Wednesday leading into the New Year. Enjoy!

pomykala-fall-2016-5-1My name is Ashley and I am a young disabled woman on her new journey as a mother. My son was born in February 2016 and he is the apple of my eye. I reside in Northwest Indiana though I still claim Chicago suburb status.

What is your favorite movie? Choosing my favorite movie is near impossible. I have such an eclectic taste in movies that I can never say what one movie is my favorite. I have definitely watched all of the Star Wars and Harry Potter movies dozens of times so that would be the closest thing to my favorite.

What type of food brings you comfort? I have one major sweet tooth. I love to sit down with a glass of milk and a sweet piece of cake following a starch filled dinner.

What is the best piece of advice you have received as a parent? The best piece of advice that I have received thus far is to follow my instincts. I have been told many things, but this has helped keep me from constantly worrying over ever little thing with my son.

img_5042I’m Colleen and I live just North of Atlanta with my husband of eight years and our three kids Jude(8) and Clara and Lily (2). I have nursed all three of my children, Jude for 15 months and the twins for 20 months. I cloth diaper the twins although one is beginning to potty train herself. I have an awesome group of mom friends who have been life savers for my sanity. I am huge into babywearing and am a VBE in training for BWI. I have attended two mommy cons and worked a third! I’m super excited for the mommycons coming up as I had a BLAST working at mommy con Austin this year.

What is your favorite movie? The yellow submarine.

What type of food brings you comfort? Fruit snacks and waffles.

What is the best piece of advice you have received as a parent? When my twins came home from the NICU we had a lot of trouble with nursing and my mom told me not to give up on a bad day. It helped me make it through all our latch issues, cluster feeds and weight gain issues.

marissa-mckennaMy name is Marissa and I’m a babywearing, breastfeeding, stay at home mom from NEPA. I have four kids, two boys and two girls, ages 8, 6, 3, and almost 1. My husband and I met as high school sweethearts and have been together for 17 years, married for 10 years.

What is your favorite movie? I can’t say I have just one, but my favorite as a child was Cinderella. I always liked the theme of reaching for your dreams, even when it doesn’t seem possible that they can be reached.

What type of food brings you comfort? Chocolate. Chocolate brings me comfort. Stressed? Have a piece of chocolate. Sad? Have a piece of chocolate. Kids driving you crazy? Show me the chocolate!

What is the best piece of advice you have received as a parent? The best piece of advice I received as a parent was to trust my instincts. No one will ever know my children better than me, and I should trust my instincts even though a person, book, or website may say otherwise.

Processed with VSCO with e8 presetMy name is Tricia and I’m a SAHM to Henry (10), Ezra (5), and Rigby (2). We also lost our first daughter, Ramona Mae, to stillbirth in March 2014. In currently expecting our 5th baby in January! I’m a CBWS certified babywearing educator and I’ve been wearing/wrapping my own babies for over 10 years now. We are attachment parents and all 3 of our boys sleep in our family bed (which is actually two king beds on the floor adjacent to on another)! We are anti-circumcision, no-vax, cloth diapering, full-term breastfeeding, babywearing kind of people; it’s an ideology that we feel meshes well with how we lead our lives outside of parenting. We live in Venice, Florida and I own a little natural parenting store/babywearing consultation firm called Hold Me Closer! We are so lucky to have had the space for me to explore my passion and extend my help to our community, which was severely lacking in babywearing assurance and education.

What is your favorite movie? This is a hard one! I have so many! Good Will Hunting and Amelie would have to be up here somewhere!

What type of food brings you comfort? Comfort food for me is pasta, as I grew up in an Italian family. But anything warm and hearty, like my nana’s beef stew, brings me lots of contentment and comfort as well!

What is the best piece of advice you have received as a parent? The best piece of advice I have ever received as a parent was, “follow your intuition and know that your child is unique, that averages are just that, and that YOU know your child better than anyone else.”

tera_parentsquadMy name is Tera, I am 34 years old and married my childhood best friend 13 years ago. We have 3 beautiful children. Kailyn-10, Colton-5, and Benjamin-1. I became a SAHM after the youngest was born. I am also a Birth Doula and Lactation Educator. I am a breastfeeding, cloth-diapering, baby-wearing, bed-sharing mama. My passion is helping moms, especially new mamas.

What is your favorite movie? Dirty Dancing.

What type of food brings you comfort? Ice Cream.

What is the best piece of advice you have received as a parent? Once you announce your pregnancy, you will begin to receive solicited and unsolicited advice from everyone around you. Don’t underestimate your own intuition and gut feeling. Sometimes parenting is overwhelming, but you’ve got this!
