Introducing the Parent Squad (Part One)
New to MommyCon in 2017 is our Parent Squad! We’ve carefully assembled a group of parents who are passionate about sharing the story and images of their family with our community. The main goal is to bring the MommyCon community together by providing authentic opinions, real-life product reviews and giveaways via social media and blogging. We’ll be introducing you to our members each Monday and Wednesday leading into the New Year. Enjoy!
My name is Jyz and I am a Los Angeles based makeup artist, a happily married wife and now taking a new turn in my life being a MOM. My husband, JayR and I are together for 18 years and married for 10 years. We are beyond blessed to have our baby, Jayzar, join us last July. He is now 5 months old and is overall a happily, growing and selfie-ready baby. We are truly humbled of this new gig as parents as we gladly share our everyday stories to our family and friends around the world thru social media.
What is your favorite movie? I love 50 First Dates and any other Adam Sandler movie.
What type of food brings you comfort? A bowl of udon or ramen shared with my husband, and tons of different kinds of sushi on the table is comforting to my tummy and my eyes.
What is the best piece of advice you have received as a parent? The best one I have received is to trust my instinct. To reassure myself that I am the person who knows my child the best. Also, to stay strong – physically, emotionally and spiritually – as my child grows, I as parent, have to grow too.

My name is Courtney and I live on the east coast of Florida on a little barrier island. I love everything about the beach, although I’m originally from New York. My husband and I have two little girls, ages 2 and 9 months, along with a dog, cat and turtle. I had been a teacher prior to having my girls and now stay home with them.
What is your favorite movie? The Wizard of Oz. I think I can probably recite the entire thing.
What type of food brings you comfort? Anything made by my mom that brings back childhood memories.
What is the best piece of advice you have received as a parent? “Play with them.” The years they want you to play with them are short. They will be teens and pushing you away before you know it. Put down the phone, stop stressing about the dishes in the sink, and join them in their fun.
My name is JD and I am a full time working father of 2 beautiful kids. My son is almost 6 years old and my daughter is 14 months. We’re hoping to have a tie breaker soon! I love babywearing as it gives me bonding time with my little one. I dream of being a stay at home dad with the rest of the family and being able to world school. I strive for a safe environment for our kids online and off, so I created Safegames4kids.com. I live in Central Florida, but plan on retiring to Costa Rica within 5 years.
What is your favorite movie? God’s Not Dead 1 (and 2).
What type of food brings you comfort? Lasagna is my comfort food. I especially love my wife’s homemade lasagna.
What is the best piece of advice you have received as a parent? The best piece of advice I have received is to ignore all the advice and just trust my instincts.

My name is Jess and I’m a wife to a band teacher, turned graduate student, and homeschooling, work-at-home mama of 3 amazing kiddos. I’m a doula and childbirth educator with a passion for people, support, and education. Our family trudged through the losses of two of our four daughters. It has fueled a fire in us to care for other families facing similar trials. I work voluntarily as a bereavement doula for parents expecting or experiencing the loss of their baby. My heart is always to see lives changed for the better by creating a community that will walk with one another through life. We live in rural Southern Oregon, where it’s always green, and the weather is unpredictable. With a 7yo, 3yo, and 9 month old, our lives definitely don’t lack excitement.
What is your favorite movie? Give me anything Disney and I’m good. If we’re talking grown-up movies, I’m a sucker for foreign films and most conflict films.
What type of food brings you comfort? Nothing takes me back to my grandma’s kitchen like a hearty serving of chicken and dumpling soup. So much savory goodness.
What is the best piece of advice you have received as a parent? “You know what you need.” The greatest affirmation of my own intuition. It has allowed me to see that while others can offer me a great deal of helpful tools and “advice”, when the day ends, I know what’s best for me, my children, and our family and I can confidently walk in that. Also…”Baby’s bounce”. They do. It’s so so true.
Thanks for reading and joining us for this first group of introductions. We’ll be back on Wednesday to share more of our passionate Parent Squad members with you.
