1:45PM-2:30PM Parent Hacks, Best Guesses, and the Surprising Thing About Trusting Yourself with Asha Dornfest
Speaker: Asha Dornfest
People tell you all the time: “You’re the expert on your own family.” “You know your child best.” It’s true, but it’s also bewildering…aren’t experts more sure of themselves? How come becoming a parent often leaves us feeling clueless and out of our depth? Asha Dornfest is the author of the new book, Parent Hacks: 134 Genius Shortcuts for Life With Kids. This book, inspired by ten years-worth of real-world parenting conversation and tip-sharing on her blog, ParentHacks.com, proves that every parent experiences moments of genius that deserve to be recognized. Asha launched the Parent Hacks blog when she herself was a new parent. Her family life didn’t line up with what she was reading in the parenting books and magazines, so she started a blog to swap tips and advice with other parents. Along the way, a community was born, and, with time and experience, Asha learned to trust her instincts, eventually accepting that we rarely feel sure of ourselves as parents. Asha’s kids are now teenagers, and with the benefit of hindsight, she encourages new parents to feel secure in the knowledge that they will figure it all out as they go along.
