Why does it calm, or excite?  Then we sift through your day to see when are there times of high energy and movement.  We will discuss, briefly, when spikes in development make a need for movement more important.  Plus some great ways to change up the movement in the household!

The Illinois Friends of Midwives will bring a dynamic mix of lecture, panel discussion, and real life stories of home births from across the state of Illinois.  Participants will hear about the latest homebirth statistics and safe birthing practices. Participants will learn how to engage in action planning and promoting social awareness for home birth choices and to improve safe access to home birth options. Home birth experts will be available to answer questions and listen to parents share their home birth experience.

11:30AM-12:15PM Postpartum Rehabilitation: It’s About Function and Safety with Dr. Dara presented by Ergobaby

What happens to our bodies during pregnancy and how we can regain physical strength postpartum. This is NOT about weight, but about increasing function, decreasing pain, and protecting ourselves from injuries while we love, guide, and grow with our children.

One of the most challenging things for any new mom is continuing to breastfeed while returning back to work! We will discuss some of the most important information that you will need to make this transition as easy as possible.  Such as…preparing for your first day back, choosing and using your breast pump, how much milk do you need for you baby while you are gone, and so much more!

We all bring our past life experiences with us when we become parents and some of these experiences shape the way we parent our children. Parenting as a survivor of sexual abuse or assault is a very unique journey. It brings with it a different type of anxiety, worry, and fear. It also brings a deep love and appreciation for the innocence of childhood.  Parenting as a survivor brought a new level of healing that was completely unexpected for me. Join me to hear my story, share my triumphs and struggles, and participate in whatever way you feel comfortable.

Jessica Solares is a mama with a music degree and co-owns Bucktown Music with her husband, Luis.  Their Kindermusik classes are ranked among the top worldwide, and she is excited to share all of the benefits music has on your child’s developing brain!  She will share how babies react to their mother’s heartbeat and their father’s voice, and how to connect with your child through music, songs, and routines, and how music affects neural pathways, reading and math skills, and social-emotional development.  There will definitely be some singing and dancing going on!

3:30PM-4:15PM Turning Red to Green: A Menstruation Workshop on Making the Switch to Reusable’s presented by The DivaCup
Speaker: Kim Rosas
Check your skepticism at the door for this workshop on switching to reusable fem-care by self-proclaimed #vagangelist Kim Rosas. Whether you are cup or cloth curious you will find answers to your most TMI questions about what it’s really like to go green on your period. Kim will be giving a live demo of a menstrual cup insertion and removal using “Virginia,” a clear vagina-like tube. For cloth curious mamas she’ll go over the basics so you’ll be prepared to make the switch. There will be a Q+A at the end. Bring a good sense of humor plus an open mind and you may just become a #vagangelist too!

Speaker: Lindsay Simonetti, PharmD
Being a parent can be scary, especially when your child is sick. When should you see a doctor? When is it ok to treat your child with over the counter (OTC) medications? Do natural remedies work? This session will cover common illnesses and recommended treatments including non-pharmacological, OTC and natural remedies based on recent updates and industry changes. Parents will also learn safe medication practices and tips/tricks to administering medications to children.
